Many expect the £51million man to reach unprecedented heights at the Etihad after establishing himself as one of world football’s most fearsome strikers at RB Salzburg and then Borussia Dortmund. And judging by Haaland’s stats for August, that is beginning to look like a certainty.
Not content with netting just one hat-trick this week, Haaland followed up his Palace showing with another three goals as he virtually single-handedly put Nottingham Forest to the sword in Wednesday night's clash. At this rate Haaland could have the Golden Boot wrapped up by Christmas.
Erling Haaland matched Sergio Aguero's Premier League record of back-to-back hattricks when he notched a triplet of goals against Nottingham on the back of his 3-goal haul against Crystal Palace. The Norwegian is stepping into the huge shoes of Man City legend Sergio Kun Aguero – who also made an electric start to life at the Etihad Stadium.
By the half-time whistle tonight, Haaland had already taken his season tally to nine from five outings with a second consecutive treble. That's a total matched by no other player since the ever-popular competition was rebranded in 1992.
It is impossible to know how this season will play out at such an early stage, but at the end of it, no-one will be saying the Norwegian is a bad fit. His movement may not be a fit for City's fluid style but his quickness of movement, intelligent running, strength and cool finishing make him a hugely dangerous threat.
